What is Rape?
Rape is defined as unwanted sexual intercourse, anal sex, oral sex, or other sexual contact though the use of force or the threat of force,without a person's consent. Penetration may be by a body part or any object. Unsuccessful attempts are also included within the classification of rape. Rape may also be called sexual assault.
Victims of Rape
Females are raped and sexually assaulted more often than males, with 1 out of 6 American women compared to 1 out of 33 American men having experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. There is a projecting that 1 in 3 American women will be rape at one point in there lifetime.
The typical rape victim is a 16-24 year old woman, however man or woman, adult or child can be the victim of rape.
80%-90% of rapes are not reported to the police
Perpetrators of Rape
Most commonly are men at least 25-44 years old, who plan there attack. They usually chooses a victim of the same race.
Half of the time, the perpetrators know their victim from working or living near them.
